Every family in Flanders is entitled to a birth benefit ("startbedrag") of 1269.25 euro for the birth or adoption of a child. (data updated September 2025)

• Paid 2 months before the expected delivery date (or once the child joins your family if adopted)
• For adoptions, include the adoption petition or international placement decision
• Entitiled to apply up to 5 years after the child is born

After your child is born, you will also receive monthly child benefits of 184.62 euro (per child). This is called the "Groeipakket ".

• Payments continue until the child turns 18 (and longer if they are studying or meet specific conditions)

Every child in Flanders receives a school bonus ("schooltoeslag") in August to help with school-related costs. The amount depends on your child's age.

• Orphan Allowance: Extra monthly support if a parent has passed away
• Social Allowance: Extra monthly amount for low-income or single-parent families
